This map of the Limpopo province shows the location of Mapungubwe National Park and Mopane Bush Lodge in the extreme North of South Africa and the Limpopo Province, west of Musina. There a number of recommended routes that could be used by guests traveling to our lodge as part of a tour, and which give different experiences of the Province. All these 5 routes are using good quality tarred roads which can be driven in normal saloon cars. The N1 Route: This is along the N1 from Johannesburg & Pretoria, going all the way up to Musina and then on the R572 to the lodge. Along this route, guests could stop off at Entabeni in the Waterberg and/or Shiluvari Lakeside Lodge at Elim, near Louis Trichardt. The pass over the mountains just North of Louis Trichardt is spectacular and it is followed by traveling through tunnels and Wyllies Poort. The road on to Musina passes many magnificent baobabs on the roadside. This route has 6 tolls along the way. The Kruger Route: Guests who travel to the Kruger National Park should visit the Northern end of the park where the concentration of tourists is much less and the herds of game are much bigger. If you stay the last night at Shingwedzi Camp and leave after breakfast, you can view the Punda Maria Camp and the Pafuri Picnic site areas and still arrive at Mopane Bush Lodge in time for tea and a walk on Mapesu Nature Reserve, before sundowners & dinner. The Blouberg Route: This is the route recommended to South African guests who are making Mopane Bush Lodge their destination. On the way one can stay at either Lesheba Wilderness in the Soutpansberg Mountains or at Magalakwena River Lodge, just past Alldays. This is the shortest and quickest route from Johannesburg to the lodge. The Waterberg Route: This route takes in the Waterberg and the possibility of Marakele National Park. A suitable lodge on the way is Kololo Game Reserve where one can see the “big five”. Also on the way is Magalakwena River Lodge just before Alldays. This is a very quiet route with little traffic. The Kruger Alternative: For those who wish to only experience the Northern end of Kruger, this route takes in Tzaneen where the Coach House is recommended as a stop and Sefapane Lodge & Safaris in Phalaborwa. The stay at and travel from Shingwedzi Camp also applies.
